THE DIRECT ANSWER

Do I Need to Be Home for Dumpster Delivery or Pickup?

Short answer: no. Tell us where you want it, leave a gate code if you've got one, and our driver handles the rest — whether you're at work, out of town, or just don't want to wait around.

No. As long as you've told us exactly where to place the container and the spot is clear, our driver can drop off and pick up the dumpster without you there. If your property is fenced or gated, just leave a gate code or access note when you book, and mark the drop spot with cones, spray paint, or anything visible so there's no guesswork on delivery day.

This comes up on almost every call, usually from someone who's picturing a delivery truck showing up like a furniture delivery, where you have to sign for it. It's not like that. Our drivers place hundreds of these a year without ever meeting the customer — you're at work, you're out of town, you're a landlord managing a rental property from across town or across the state, and none of that stops the dumpster from getting where it needs to go.

What actually matters is that we know exactly where you want it and the spot's accessible when the truck rolls up. Tell us "left side of the driveway" or "next to the shed on the side yard" when you book, and that's usually all the direction a driver needs. If you want zero ambiguity, mark the spot yourself with a cone or a stake before delivery day — takes thirty seconds and means the driver's not guessing between two possible spots.

WHAT TO LEAVE INSTEAD OF BEING THERE

Three things that replace you standing in the driveway

Clear placement instructions

Tell us the exact spot when you book — driveway, side yard, next to the garage. The clearer this is, the less chance of it landing somewhere you didn't want.

A gate code, if you've got one

Fenced property or a keypad entry? Give us the code or access instructions upfront. Without it, a driver who can't get in and can't reach you has to reschedule.

A clear path, front to back

No car parked over the drop spot, no trailer in the way, low branches trimmed if they hang over the driveway. A clear path is the single biggest thing that keeps delivery and pickup on schedule.

SAME GOES FOR PICKUP

You don't need to be there for pickup either

Same logic applies when the job's done. Call or text us when you're finished and ready for it to go, or don't call at all — we'll swing by automatically at the end of your standard rental window either way. All we need is that the access path stays clear right up until it's hauled off. If a car gets parked in front of it the morning of pickup, or a trailer's blocking the driveway, that can turn into a wasted trip for the driver and sometimes a redelivery fee if the truck has to come back a second time.

If you know you'll be at work or out of town on pickup day, just make sure whoever's around — a spouse, a neighbor, a contractor still on-site — knows to leave that path open. It's a small thing, but it's the difference between an on-time pickup and a delay nobody wanted.

A LOCAL NOTE

Why this matters more here than you'd think

A good chunk of our business is landlords, property managers, and out-of-town owners handling rental turnovers near WKU's campus, plus contractors who are on three job sites in a day and can't babysit a delivery. None of that works if we required someone standing in the driveway to accept a dumpster. So we built the whole process around not needing that — you tell us where it goes, we go there, done.

The one time this gets trickier is during the WKU move-out and move-in crunch in late May and late August, when a lot of rental properties near campus are getting cleared out at once and access instructions matter even more because we're running a tighter schedule that week. If that's your situation, a clear gate code and a marked spot make a real difference in getting your delivery placed on time instead of getting bumped to a second attempt.

COMMON QUESTIONS

More questions about delivery and pickup access

How do I tell the driver exactly where to place it if I'm not there?+

Tell us the spot when you book — left side of the driveway, next to the garage, along the side yard — and mark it yourself with cones, chalk, or a stake before delivery day if you want to be extra sure. Drivers place thousands of these and will use good judgment, but a clearly marked spot means zero back-and-forth and no guessing on their end.

What if my property has a locked gate or a code to get in?+

Give us the gate code or access instructions when you schedule, and note it again in any text or email confirmation. If a driver can't get in and can't reach you, that delivery gets pushed to the next available slot, so it's worth double-checking this the day before if you know you won't be around.

Do I need to be there when the dumpster gets picked up?+

No. Call or text us when you're done and ready for pickup, or we'll come automatically at the end of your rental window either way. Just make sure the access path is clear — no car parked in front of it, no trailer blocking the driveway — so the driver isn't stuck waiting on something only you can move.

What happens if something blocks the truck when it shows up?+

We'll call or text to get it cleared first. If the truck has to make a full second trip because a car, trailer, or gate is in the way, that can mean a redelivery fee, since it's a wasted drive for the driver. A quick look at the access path the night before pickup or delivery avoids this almost every time. See our how it works guide for the full rental terms.

Can I have a neighbor or contractor handle it instead of me?+

Sure. As long as whoever's on-site knows where the dumpster is supposed to go, or knows to keep the path clear for pickup, that works fine. Just make sure whoever books the order gives us a good contact number in case the driver has a quick question on-site.

Not going to be home? That's fine — let's get it scheduled.

Tell us the drop spot and any access details, and we'll take it from there.
